Flakvierling #1 / Base & Body /

Assembly of Flakvierling started with laminating with card & cutting out framework and preparing the base. To upgrade my model, I've decided to replace floor panels provided by the kit (which are part of the framework to be cut away in this case), with floor sections made from scratch. I used wooden, flat sticks (eg. coffee mixer from fast food restaurants) cut down to strips of required size. Matches seemed to be a logical choice, but profile of single match is square and too high for my needs here.

Cargo bed flaps of Sdkfz 7 half track, can be opened or closed, so I try to follow this path and make applicable components of this gun working as well (folding seats as well as floor sections, and gun barrels to be elevated etc).  Single floor section is divided into two panels,  hinged together. Applying scratch built hinges was quite ain this case, as overall size of the wire and it's sleeve was rather small, as well as fixing spots (the very edge), I had to be precise and cautious during super glue application. When dry, crew seat brackets were  cut away from original parts and re-fitted onto outer edges of each floor panel. Wash of citadel's Gryphon Sephia was applied for more woody & realistic look.

Main body with it's detail came next. I had to cut down base for part 4 (which is  also a front part of the framework) by 1,5 - 2 mm, to avoid a gap. Other components fitted correctly without any additional alterations. Some extra details were added up, pedals were made from scratch as simple version provided by the kit is not enough any more (think it may be the case for all my future builds). Having all that done, round base for gun  was prepared, but not fixed to cargo bed yet. For now it provides support and easy access. Also, the base may not be fixed permanently to cargo bed at all, to keep that space clear for other artillery type, for it is easier to build another AA gun than new half track (if I feel brave enough to cannibalise other kit of it's gun) .
