Polish Navy Destroyer, ORP Blyskawica was built in 1937 in British shipyard at Cowes. Ship was commissioned on the 25th of November 1937. On the 30th of August 1939 along with other Polish Navy Destroyers Grom and Burza was evacuated to Great Britain. During Second World War Blyskawica took part in combat actions and sea operations including Norwegian operation, battle of Narvik, evacuation from Dunkirk, battle of Atlantic, as well as other battles of Mediterranean Sea, English Channel, landing operation in North Africa and Normandy. During the war ORP Blyskawica carried out 108 combat patrols, escorted 83 convoys, sailed 148 000 nautical miles. On the 4th of July 1947 ship sailed back to Poland. Decommissioned at 1st of May 1976, since when performed representative functions for Polish Navy, and been a museum ship within Navy Museum in Gdynia.
