Dornier Do - 17 z has got rather large canopy, glazed nose & rear gunner's section. Masking off of all this parts took me long hours... Result is not the best, but not the worst, at least for first time. Spaces to be masked off were tiny, tricky to be covered equally. At some places where tape was not secured well enough, paint has gotten in. Not as big problem as I thought, was able to scrape extent off without scratching the canopy. Securing previous coat with varnish prior to next one, would be a good idea also, I didn't do it this time, in result paint was very easily peeled off..

Putting plastic model together is not that difficult, turns out a bit more effort is required when painting it. Actually it all comes down to painting & weathering techniques that allow for reproduction of rust, dirt, corrosion or worn down metal. As beginner with plastic stuff I keep all that in mind, for now my main focus is how to use airbrush properly or to get right consistency of paint. I found out, spraying/painting takes less time than cleaning the airbrush, even if the one I have is low maintenance. I think it's great for beginners, easy and user friendly (single action, external mix). I start seeing new possibilities for more advanced equipment, which is not cheap at all. At some point I imagine, may become necessary.

Dornier Do 17 Z-2 #2 / Tail & Basic Painting /

After wings have been successfully assembled and gaps filled with liquid green stuff and super glue (that is a case where I need some more practice, paint shows all imperfections!) I moved to tail section and remaining details. There was not many components  left, but still had to consider order of assembly prior to painting and making working propellers. I had no difficulties with tail assembly, everything matched as it should (despite my expectations),  few other details have been added and complete fuselage with wings  & tail was ready to be undecorated with pure white.

In the light of latest events - rising up the only remaining "pencil" Dornier  from the seabed of English Channel, I picked plastic model of this elegant plane from Revell in 1:72. Just bought it at Cosford (every time I visit RAF Museum at Cosford is better than last one!), despite so many promises made to myself not to get anything new and start building already piled up projects - two Panzers (IV & V), Flak AA guns (37 & 38) and some other vehicles (Sdkfz 250, Kubelwagen, BMW R75, Zundap KS 750) in 1:35 scales. I will replace crew  from another kit by Revell, as all four supplied within the kit are exactly the same.

The Red Baron, Manfred von Richthofen #1 / Fokker Dr I /

After rather long time spent on cutting & folding paper time has come to change modeling medium to plastic, at least for a while. This time the subject is Fokker Dr. I, triplane of most famous pilot to date - Manfred von Richthofen also known as The Red Baron. He was flying predominantly red machine, painted this way according to his wish to ignite fear among enemy pilots, what won him a "celebrity" status. He died in unclear circumstances scoring 80 victories.
